Girls win Cumann na mBunscol Chill Mhantáin 2025!!
Our girls recovered from their October final defeat in the Carlow Cumann na mBunscol final to reign supreme in Wicklow in May! Co-captains Emma O’Grady, Ellie O’Toole and Ella O’Connor tell us about the day!
For the second year in a row, Ballyconnell NS took part in the Carlow Olympic Handball County Finals. This year’s finals took place in Spellman Hall, Kildavin.
Children began 2025 with a blast of activity as all classes took part in the Run Around Ireland initiative to begin term 2 to wipe the cobwebs off after our extended 3-week Christmas break!

For the first time in living memory, Ballyconnell NS girls donned helmets and picked up their camáin to take part in Carlow Cumann na mBunscol Indoor Camogie. Evanne tells us more.
24 hours after the girls made their camogie début, the Ballyconnell boys arrived in Kildavin to take part in indoor hurling for the second time. Rang a 6’s Michael tells us more.
Tokyo 2021 Olympian, Marcus Lawler, visited Ballyconnell NS recently to share some of his experiences with our students. Believe it or not, this was Marcus’s second time to visit us!
Rang a 5 were recently invited to play at the GAA Gaeilge Go-Games in Croke Park, an event which celebrates both the Irish language and Gaelic football. Read more about it below!

Carlow County Athletics 2024 Primary School Relays
On the 19th March 2024, a number of 5th adn 6th class pupils journeyed to SETU Carlow to take part in running relays. Read the report compiled by some of the 6th class boys who were in attendance and taking part on the day.
On February 8th , 4 th , 5 th and 6 th class students arose bright and early to head for Castletown in County Wexford for the Carlow/Wexford Olympic Handball Finals.

Active Schools Week 2023 Day 5: Anna Doyle Visits Ballyconnell NS
There’s always fantastic hype around our ASW Special Guest. On the final day of ASW 2023, we were visited by past pupil and Leinster rugby star, Anna Doyle.
For the first time in many years (or maybe ever – we’ve to consult the archives!), Ballyconnell NS will enter a hurling team in Cumann na mBunscol Cheatharlach. Training started last Friday!
On Friday October 6 th 2023, we had a very special visit from some of the St Brigid’s panel who won the Carlow LGFA Intermediate Championship the previous Saturday as part of Clonmore’s ‘Super Saturday’!
There was great excitement recently as the senior pupils raced to see who would represent the school at the Valleymount Cross Country Championships 2023.

Carlow Cumann na mBunscol Girls Final 2022 - Replay
Ballyconnell NS won their third girls’ Cumann na mBunscol Division 2B title in a row on Wednesday night after finally getting the better of a dogged Tinryland outfit.
Ballyconnell and Tinryland played out what can only be described as an epic Cumann na mBusncol Final on Wednesday night, an encounter which came to an end just before 10pm with the sides still to be separated! A replay has been fixed for next Wednesday night at 6pm in Brother Leo Park, Tullow.
Ballyconnell NS boys won their first Cumann na mBunscol title since 2015 on Wednesday night last courtesy of a nail-biting win against old rivals Hacketstown NS.
Thanks to our Parents Association, we recently had a big addition to our yard – a new adjustable basketball hoop! 6th class had a mini-tournament to inaugurate it.
