Our cailíní made a little more school sporting history on the last week of the school year.
This generation of senior girls are a very sporty bunch. Their exploits on the football field this year are evidence enough of this – 21 games played, 17 wins and just 4 defeats.
They are also a pioneering bunch! Firstly, they became the first group of girls in the collective memory of the school to take part in indoor camogie last December. Read about that here.
Then, just last week, they headed to Carlow to take on Scoil Mhuire gan Smál in a camogie challenge match in Éire Óg. This represented the first time (again, in the collective memory) that the school had played an outdoor camogie match.
The girls, all beginners at the ancient game, played very well and really enjoyed the experience. Aoife Bolger was a star turn with her booming puck outs of which Cork midfielder Ashling Thompson would be proud! Ella O’Connor scored a hat-trick of goals while Hannah Lawlor also found the net for Ballyconnell!
Maith sibh, a chailíní! Míle buíochas to all of the parents who provided lifts to the children to and from Éire Óg.

4 th class have spent the year in St Mary’s Hall. They thought it a good idea to find out a little bit more about this important building in our parish and to share what they learned with their school mates.
Our Spelling Bee Champion, Sara O’Grady, recently took part in the Carlow County Final of the Eason Spelling Bee. Read her account below.
We were delighted to welcome our former student, Rosealice Byrne, back to Ballyconnell NS last week to regale our 4 th , 5 th and 6 th class students with details of her recent trip to The Gambia in West Africa.
