Show Jumping Success!
(13th October 2019)
For the first time, Ballyconnell N.S was represented at an Equestrian Interschools competition on the 13th October 2019. On Sunday the 13th October 2019, Johnnie Sheppard, 5th class, represented his school with great honour and pride at an interschools show jumping competition in Barnadown, Co. Wexford. There were 13 teams taking part in the primary school section. Johnnie started his day by jumping in the team section. The team comprising of pupils from Ballyconnell, Kilcommon and Crossbridge, finished outside the prizes.
Johnnie jumped again in the individuals competition where over 30 primary school pupils took part. Johnnie jumped a foot perfect round with no faults and a time that was speedy enough to see him into the prizegiving. Johnnie finished in a well deserved 6th place.
Before long, Johnnie was out again representing Ballyconnell in great style on the 3rd November 2019. This time in Wexford Equestrian Centre. Johnnie competed as an individual at both 55cms and 75cms and placed 5th in each competition!
Johnnie hit the ground running at the start of 2020 competing in January, February and March. Johnnie picked up another rosette as an individual when finishing 3rd on 23rd February when returning to Wexford Equestrian Centre. Another mixed team came to fruition comprising of Ballyconnell NS, Crossbridge NS and Drumphea NS. This team jumped excellently and faultless to finish a fabulous 2nd on their very first outing as a team. This Ballyconnell/Crossbridge/Drumphea team that experienced success immediately together were chomping at the bit for another outing as soon as possible and were ready to go to Cóilóg Equestrian Centre, Co. Kildare on the 15th March 2020. Unfortunately, this wasn’t to be and was postponed. We look forward to seeing Johnnie continue to represent Ballyconnell on the Equestrian Interschools circuit as he progresses into 6th class.
