On Wednesday, June 21st 2023, 6th class students Creah Doyle and Allie Lacey travelled to Dublin as part of the Carlow Cumann na mBunscol team. Creah tells us more.
The 21st of June I went to St Patrick’s Drumcondra to play for Carlow in a Leinster Blitz.
I went with Allie from my school and I knew some other people from other schools such as Leah and Jane from Grange, Holly and Emily from Tynock and my football team, Clonmore. I also got to know lots of new people that were on my team.
When we got there I was really nervous and excited. At the start we got changed and did a warm up. Then Mr Byrne lined us out. I was in half-forward.
The first match we played was against Westmeath and we won (5-4 to 3-3). The second game we played was against Dublin. We won that as well (2-6 to 1-0). We played our third match against Dublin’s second team and we won that too - (4-4 to 0-4)! We won all them so that meant we got into a final with Louth who won all their matches too. It was a tough game against Louth but in the end we won by 4 points – 4-4 to 2-6. I’m really happy we won and got chosen to go.
After all that, we went back home on the bus and it was really good craic. We all got to know each other and became great friends.
