Cathal and Peter tell us all about their day at the Credit Union All-Ireland Final, Ballyconnell NS’s first appearance at the finals since 2001.
Today we’re going to tell you about the All-Ireland Credit Union Quiz Final. Our names are Cathal Butler and Peter O’Shea and along with our teammates Maddie and Florrie we made it to the All-Ireland Credit Union quiz final this year.
Firstly, we’ll talk about the preparation. Almost every day from December to April we did practice. We did almost 20 questions every time - sometimes we had more or less.
Next, we’ll talk about the morning of the final – the big day!
Cathal’s Morning
I got to stay in a hotel because my father had promised me that if we made it through the last round! So I woke up and we got breakfast. I had cereal, pancakes and a banana. When we were eating breakfast, there was someone from another team right beside us. After breakfast we went to a park which was quite relaxing. Then we finally arrived at the RDS where the quiz was being held.
Peter’s Morning
Cathal got to stay in a hotel but I didn’t stay in a hotel. I got up and got changed into my school uniform. I got breakfast then went up to Dublin. There was a lot of traffic in Dublin. Then we finally arrived at the RDS in Dublin where the quiz was.
When we went in, it was very busy. We got a few pictures. Then we went inside and sat at our seats. Our table number was 16 so we were near the front. There was a camera man taking a video nearly the whole time yet he never videoed us. And just before the quiz started there was a big Mexican wave.
Then the quiz finally started and in the first round we got 6/6 and in the next round we got 2/6 so some of the questions were very hard. There was a picture round in round 6 which had JD Vance, Thomas Barr and Nora Patten. The prize if you won was a tablet which was very cool. In the end, we came 10th and our score was 35. The winners (Rathmore NS from County Kerry) got 41 so it was very close. Maynooth Boys NS from Kildare and Scoil Mhuire from Mayo were joint second. We didn’t win but we still got a gift bag which had a star (which I think was a stress ball), a pen, a bottle and a magnet.
When it was all over, we all decided to go to McDonald’s in Kilcullen. When we had all finished, we went home. We really enjoyed the quiz and we hope you enjoyed this piece. Thank you.
