The boys battled all the way to the final of the recent South Wicklow Cumann na mBunscol Final – only to be pipped by Aughrim NS.
Ballyconnell boys had a great day out in Ballinakill recently at the South Wicklow Cumann na mBunscol Cup.
They took on Aughrim 2 in their first game and, playing some lovely football, enjoyed a comfortable win. Next up was Rathdrum NS who put up a stern resistance, but our boys got the better of them in the end.
That win saw Ballyconnell into the semi-finals where they took on Kilcommon NS. This one was a very physical encounter with heavy hits going in. Ballyconnell took those hits and also took the win to march onto the final.
The final was to be against Aughrim NS who we had narrowly beaten in the group stage in 2024. The final started well with captain Michael McDonnell striking early to give us the lead. However, Aughrim proved to be a very strong team and had taken the lead by half-time with some great point-scoring.
Ballyconnell continued to battle in the second half but couldn’t reel the Aughrim boys in who won on a scoreline of 8 points to 4.
The Ballyconnell team should be rightly proud of their efforts, however. For the 6th class boys, this would be the last time they’d play football for Ballyconnell NS. They have shown great commitment to training and represented the school with great distinction over the last two years. Ádh mór sa todhchaí, a bhuachaillí!
