6th class student Conor tells us all about the highs and lows of this year's Cumann na mBunscol Cheatharlach.
Cumann na mBunscol has sadly concluded for the boys this year and I am going to give you a recap of what happened.
After training twice a week for about three or four weeks we had our first game against Borris who unfortunately proved too strong for us. We soon after had a game against Grange, it was a close game until the last few minutes when they couldn't stop scoring.
It looked like it was going to be a rough year for Ballyconnell, until our third game against Tinryland who just couldn't get the ball over over the bar, leading us to our first win. We then headed into the game against Rathvilly with a new confidence. Although they tried to put us off with a sizeable home crowd they could barely even get the ball into our half. And if they did, our two corner backs Rory Donoghue with his strength and Teegan O'Callaghan with his speed got it straight back out again.
Our final game was against Ballinabranna who were unfortunately very strong and well...we lost. We came fourth out of six which is very respectable considering we just barely went up a division and all the other schools were very big. Overall I'd say you could ask anyone involved and they'd say they really enjoyed it, and on behalf of the whole team I'd like to thank Mr Byrne for giving up his time [and doing a fairly good job!] coaching us.
I'd also like to wish the girls the best of luck from the whole school in their final in Fenagh on Tuesday the 8th of November.
