On Friday October 6 th 2023, we had a very special visit from some of the St Brigid’s panel who won the Carlow LGFA Intermediate Championship the previous Saturday as part of Clonmore’s ‘Super Saturday’!
In England, sports fans often refer to August 4th 2012 as ‘Super Saturday, as on that date, British athletes Jessica Ennis (heptathlon), Mo Farrah (10,000m) and Greg Rutherford (long jump) won gold medals in the London Olympics, the three medals coming just 45 minutes apart!
Well, October 2nd 2023, will surely go down as ‘Super Saturday’ in the history of Clonmore gaelic games with both their men’s and women’s teams winning intermediate championships on the same day.
After losing the 2022 final, St Brigid’s finally got their hands on the trophy by beating Clonegal/Kildavin GAA. We were delighted to welcome some of the panel (including several past pupils) to Ballyconnell NS on Friday October 6th, to share some of their joy with our pupils, many of whom were at the match the previous weekend. Visiting us were, Rachael Hickey (Class of 2010), Sara Doyle (Class of 2014), Mayghan Doyle (Class of 2009), Annie Lawlor (Class of 2019), Olwynn Doyle (Class of 2019), Kate Ryan, Ruby Connolly and Emma Whelan. Comhghairdeas leo!
