Physical Education – The Curriculum
There are 6 strands in the P.E. curriculum:
Here in Ballyconnell NS, we cover 5-6 of these strands, each year in all classrooms.
Each class teacher’s timetable allocates at least 1 hour of P.E. every week for their class, while all children are aware that they require at least 60 mins every day!
We consider P.E. to be a vital subject and we follow a school P.E. policy for teaching the various strands. Our teachers are always sharing different P.E. ideas and activities with each other, with some of us completing different courses on P.E. to make our lessons more fun and interesting!
Some of the teachers use the PSSI lesson plans to guide their delivery of the Primary PE Curriculum. If you wish to take a look at the PSSI lessons, click here: pssi.pdst.ie/clickme.html
PAWS Lessons (Primary Aquatic Water SAFETY)
In March 2020, 4th & 5th class participated in the PAWS Programme. They learnt all about water safety and participated in interactive quizzes after.
