Children began 2025 with a blast of activity as all classes took part in the Run Around Ireland initiative to begin term 2 to wipe the cobwebs off after our extended 3-week Christmas break!
The Active Schools Committee decided that it would be good to begin 2025 with a running initiative. The ever-popular Run Around Ireland was chosen. This initiative not only encourages the children to be active but also teaches them the location of important Irish landmarks. Who knows, some of them may even be creating a mental bucket list while running!
Locations reached by the classes included the Aviva Stadium, Hook Lighthouse, Killarney National Park, Glencar Waterfall in Leitrim, Armagh Observatory, Croagh Patrick in Mayo, Spike Island in Cork and Mondello Park in Kildare.
The younger classes incorporated some maths into their daily run by using cubes to count their laps. The senior classes used a click counter and counted their laps ‘as Gaeilge’!
As you can see from the pictures below, great fun was had. Bhí an-spraoi ann!
