Gymnastics is always one of the most exciting events at an Olympic Games. We all marvel at the simply incredible abilities of the gymnasts as they go through their routines. This year, of course, there was added Irish interest in the gymnastics with Rhys McGleneghan among the medal favourites for the pommel horse.
We knew we simply had to incorporate some gymnastics into our ‘Ballyconnell 2021’ schedule. On the Wednesday of Active Schools Week, gymnastics teacher Carolanne McCauley took each class for a session over in the hall.
Before each class went across to the hall, they watched a couple of taster videos of some of the world’s top gymnasts in action, including Simone Biles and Rhys McGlenaghan.
Handstands, forward rolls, side rolls and numerous other manoeuvres were taught to and performed by the children. Children were also given an opportunity to put a small routine together.
Overall, each class really enjoyed the gymnastics session with Carolanne. Check out some photos below.
