24 hours after the girls made their camogie début, the Ballyconnell boys arrived in Kildavin to take part in indoor hurling for the second time. Rang a 6’s Michael tells us more.
Hello, my name is Michael and today I’m going to talk about the indoor hurling competition in Kildavin. First, in the car on the way to Kildavin we had to bring Regan to the hall. It took 27 minutes to get there. It was boring in the car. We were listening to the radio. Regan and I were excited. We were talking about what positions we would probably play
Then we got there. There were a few cars in the parking spots. Before I went in I got my hurling helmet off Mr Byrne. Then I went in. The first people I saw were Christopher and Danny. I was happy to see them. We went into the dressing room. We were confused. We were looking for a room that was open. Then we found one. We went in and got our hurls to go out to get ready for the match. I was a bit nervous. I really wanted to win but I knew we might lose. We went out to play our first game. It was against Ballon. I was scared that I was going to get hit by the hurls but once I started I forgot all about it. I was excited for the first game. I started at forward. I played alright but made a few mistakes but didn’t make the same mistake every time. We scored after 2 minutes. Christopher scored first. I was happy but then Ballon scored 3 goals in 2 minutes. Ballon won 3-1. I was angry with myself because I had a few chances to score and I didn’t but I had to forget about it.
My second game I didn’t start but I was ok with that. We were playing Clonegal. Clonegal scored first. Clonegal won 5-0. I didn’t play at all. I was sad but I knew other players had to have a chance.
Then lastly the third match. I was starting. I was happy. We were playing Kildavin. I knew a few people on their team from rugby. I was starting at midfield. Kildavin scored first. Then a minute later I scored. I was very happy and I wanted to score again but Kildavin scored again and then my friend passed to me and I scored again.
I was so happy and it was nice to hear my team mates shout cheerfully. In the end, Kildavin won 5-3 and I scored all of my team’s goals. Even though we lost, it felt like a win.
Then when we went back to the dressing room a few people were disappointed and so was I but I was also really happy because I scored a hat-trick.
Then I went back to my car and went home. Then lastly that’s my essay about Hurling in Kildavin.
