We recently made our début (we think!) in Cumann na mBunscol hurling by attending an indoor blitz in Kildavin.
After several training sessions under the tutelage of Mr Gavin Byrne, pupils from Rang a 5 and Rang a 6 headed down to Kildavin to take on Ballon NS and Talbotstown NS in the Carlow Cumann na mBunscol Indoor Hurling Blitz.
This was a great occasion for the school as, to our knowledge, we had never taken part in a hurling competition before.
The boys held their own against Ballon for a long period before the Ballon boys’ greater experience told as they ran out comfortable victors in the end.
Our second game was against Talbotstown NS. This one was a much tighter affair with Jack Farrell and Kian Hutton finding the net to give us the lead at one point. With time just up, the Talbotstown goalie made a great save to deny us an equaliser before they went up the other end and scored a goal of their own on the counterattack to run out 5-3 winners.
Nevertheless, our boys can be very proud of their showing – safe in the knowledge that they made some sporting history simply by taking part! Maith sibh a bhuachaillí!

4 th class have spent the year in St Mary’s Hall. They thought it a good idea to find out a little bit more about this important building in our parish and to share what they learned with their school mates.
Our Spelling Bee Champion, Sara O’Grady, recently took part in the Carlow County Final of the Eason Spelling Bee. Read her account below.
We were delighted to welcome our former student, Rosealice Byrne, back to Ballyconnell NS last week to regale our 4 th , 5 th and 6 th class students with details of her recent trip to The Gambia in West Africa.
