Some 5th and 6th class pupils recently took part in Wicklow Cumann na mBunscol's Tráth na gCeist. 6th class student, Elliot, tells us more
Wicklow Cumann na mBunscoil were back hosting a table quiz for the first time since Covid. It was for fifth and sixth class. The teams were three teams of four people.
Since many people wanted to get on a team, we had to do trials. The trials were mainly GAA-related I got through with a few others from sixth class and a few others from fifth class.
Once we got off our Halloween break, Mr Byrne revealed our teams. The teams were Christopher, Eva, Ellie and me on one team; Kian, Oisin , Lee, and Patrick on another. Also there was one more team which consisted of Cathal, Danny and John. They were the only team of three because some people couldn’t go. Then we got onto practising with our teams. These were like the trials. For example: ‘Who is the new presenter of the Late Late Show?’ Also each night we got a sheet to split amoung ourselves with questions to learn. For example, I had: ‘Who is the Wicklow Camogie manager?’ (Brendan Tobin).
Now it was Thursday - the big day. We arrived in Laragh. It was a luxurious old style hotel. When you walked in there was a warm gust of air that hit you. It was also very cozy. Once I got in the room there were many tables. We picked our table close to the front. After that I waited for everyone to flood in. Then it started. We got eight sheets for the rounds. In the first round we got nine so we were ahead. A few rounds later we got a sheet with famous Irish people we had to name. Then we got to fill in the blanks. I was keeping track of my team’s score. Then a really hard question popped up: ”Whose Instagram account is Hoggie?” The answer was Patrick Horgan.
After that, I won a prize in the raffle. I choose football gloves. In the end we came joint fourth. Second and third had to go to a decider and the question was ”how many pages are in the Harry Potter collection?” The answer was roughly four thousand. So that meant Wicklow Primary School won it. Roundwood N.S. came second and Kilcoole PS came third and we came fourth.
Bhain mé taitneamh as an turas go dtí Laragh. Bhí sceitimíní orm agus bhí sé spraíúil
