This year, Rang a Sé are piloting an exciting new spelling programme called Spellings for Me
Sixth class are this year trialling a brand new spelling programme. This programme is called Spellings for Me. As the name suggests, Spellings for Me is an individualised spelling programme. This means that every child in the class has their own, specific list of spellings.
IT (Information Technology) features heavily in Spellings for Me. Every morning, Rang a Sé take the i-pads and laptops, plug in their headphones and work away on their on-line testing for 20 minutes or so.
There is also a spelling workbook with Spellings for Me. The big difference between this and other spelling workbooks is that this spelling workbook is blank! There are no lists of words to learn how to spell.
At the beginning of October, all of the words that have been spelled incorrectly during on-line testing will be printed and these will be the words studied for homework each night.
In addition, sixth class have also been learning different spelling strategies. This week they have been working on finding mini-words in larger words. For example, in ‘chocolate’, a mini-word is ‘cola’.
Check back in soon for further updates on how Rang a Sé are getting on with Spellings for Me. In the meantime, check out the below photos of them doing their on-line testing.
