Our 2024 Spelling Bee Champion, Babette, headed off to the County Final in Tullow in early March. Read about how she got on below. Well done Babette!
I went to the Carlow County Final Spelling Bee on the 6th of March because I had won the school Spelling Bee.
At first I was happy but then I started I started to realise I actually had to go to the Spelling bee so I was initially very nervous as I have never been to any competition before. I went with my mother on the day. I wasn’t too sure what would be happening but I soon found out the competition was in the Tullow primary school. It was a bit hard to find the location because it was in the hall around the back of the school but eventually someone helped us! When we went in, there were very little people as we were early. It took around 20 minutes until everyone arrived but another five minutes until the competition started to explain all the rules. There were some other contestants there [around 9]. We all sat down in our places. I was first to start, I was scared for a minute because I really didn’t want to get out first round but I said the word and I passed. Soon enough the second round came, I passed. The third round came by and I was a bit more confident about it and I got through! On the fourth round I got out with a few others. This just left the last two contestants. There was tension in the room. Who would win the spelling bee? Soon after some trial and error the winner was announced!
Overall I had a great time and I got the rest of the school day off!!! :]
