Students recently tried out a super cool maths resource called IZAQ-9 cubes. Emily in Rang a 4 tells us more.
The I-ZAQ-9 cubes are a stack of 27 blocks.
When looking at one side you will see 3 rows and 3 columns.
My class and I found the I-ZAQ-9 cubes a really fun way to learn maths. Our teacher would put activities up on the board. Some of them told us a certain way to arrange the blocks and others told us to stack the blocks in 3 rows of single digit numbers and the sum of the three numbers would have to add up to a certain number.
Our teacher would also split the class into groups of 3/4 and we would have 2 full IZAQ-9s among the whole class and each group would have 9 cubes. Our school rented the I-ZAQ-9 cubes so we only had them from September to October. I loved the I-ZAQ-9 cubes and I know my class did too.
*Junior and senior infants used the cubes to measure their heights.
*1st class used the cubes to practice ordering numbers.
*6th class managed integrate maths, French and Gaeilge while using them.
