Meet this year's Green Schools Committee
Green-Schools is Ireland’s leading environmental management and education programme for schools.
Promoting long-term, whole-school action for the environment Green-Schools is a student-led programme with involvement from the wider community. The programme is operated and co-ordinated by the Environmental Education Unit of An Taisce.
Every year our schools sets up a Green-School’s committee with representatives from each class. This committee then is tasked with activities, promoting the Green-Schools ethos and reporting back to their class.
Green-Schools Ireland is based on nine themes, each over a two year cycle.
The themes are:
1. Litter and Waste
2. Energy
3. Water
4. Travel
5. Biodiversity
6. Global Citizenship – Litter and Waste
7. Global Citizenship – Energy
8. Global Citizenship – Marine Environment
9. Global Citizenship – Travel
Here in Ballyconnell, we are delighted to say that we have earned our Green-Schools flag in:
1. Litter and Waste
2. Energy
3. Water

5. Biodiversity
This is down to the hard work of the Green-Schools committee, each student and teacher and the wider community. We are very proud to have such an active Green-School! We are currently working on our next flag ‘Global Citizenship – Litter and Waste’.
