For the first time, the Ballyconnell NS school community took part in GOAL Jersey Day.
October 8th was GOAL Jersey Day 2021. The concept of the day is a simple one – children and staff wear their favourite jersey to school and bring in a small donation too. All money raised goes to renowned Irish charity, GOAL.
GOAL Jersey Day has been running for over 30 years now, and in 2020 raised a massive €150,000.
When all our donations were gathered in our special GOAL Jersey Day box, Ms Dagg set some of her sixth class the task of counting the money to see just how much we had raised.
When they were finished, they had counted €344.61! They then made a lovely colourful banner and headed off around the school to tell everybody how much we had raised for GOAL.
There was a great variety of jerseys on display throughout the school, even if there were a ‘few too many’ Liverpool jerseys for Mr Byrne’s liking! Thanks everybody for your generous donations. Míle buíochas to Rang a Sé and Ms Ryan for counting to takings.
We’re looking forward to GOAL Jersey Day 2022 already!

4 th class have spent the year in St Mary’s Hall. They thought it a good idea to find out a little bit more about this important building in our parish and to share what they learned with their school mates.
Our Spelling Bee Champion, Sara O’Grady, recently took part in the Carlow County Final of the Eason Spelling Bee. Read her account below.
We were delighted to welcome our former student, Rosealice Byrne, back to Ballyconnell NS last week to regale our 4 th , 5 th and 6 th class students with details of her recent trip to The Gambia in West Africa.
