The children in Ms Clare’s Senior Infants had a very special visitor last Thursday by a retired member of An Garda Síochána, Mr. Gerry Connolly. Gerry retired from An Garda Síochána in 2017 and was stationed in Harcourt Terrace, Pearse Street before his promotion to Sergeant where he served in Tullow. He spent a year in Bosnia with the UN and later returned to Tullow for a year in 2007 to the rank of inspector before moving to Baltinglass Garda Station where he served for nearly ten years!
Gerry brought lots of the Gardaí equipment with him on the day also such as a Garda hat, real handcuffs, a tie, a notepad, a crest, a Garda badge as well as many other Garda related items. The children were allowed to pass all the equipment around to have a closer look as well got the opportunity to ask Gerry lots of questions about his career as a guard. They absolutely LOVED it as you can tell from the photos below and the whole visit tied in so well with our Aistear theme of the Garda Station for the month of November.
