Presidential Election Sixth Class
The week before mid-term, rang a 6 organised a mock presidential election among the students of 4th, 5th and 6th class.

Welcome back to the 20 pupils in 6th class!
We were sorry to learn that William was leaving our school and our class this year. We hope he gets on well in his new school! We welcome Luke into our class here in Ballyconnell!
September has been a busy month! 6th class have been busy revising and moving on to learning lots more!
We have been learning about Mé Féin in Gaeilge and have completed oral, listening and produced pieces of writing ‘as Gaeilge’ about ourselves.


In History and Geography, we have been learning about the Celts and about the structure of the Earth. We have learned about the influence of the Celts on some place names. We researched our own home areas using the iPads on logainm.ie to learn more about where we live and the history behind them. Have a look at some of the art we then created.

In Science, we completed our first STEM challenge. In small groups, we had 2 A4 pages, scissors and glue. We had to see who could create the longest paper link chain. Afterwards, we measured the chains and discussed why some were over 4 meters in length and other were under 3metres yet each group used all the paper. There are some great problem solvers and critical thinkers in our class!

In SPHE and Religion, we were learning about our rights and our responsibilities. We discussed the importance of being a good example to the younger classes. This was related to images of God and what God was doing in each. We questioned how we could act in the image of God and identified that we could look to God for a good example to follow.

We also completed some abstract name art earlier in the month focussing on the concept of line and colour.

On Wednesday 22nd of October Junior and Senior Infants had a wonderful day Pumpkin Picking at Tinahely Farm Shop.
Our 4th class girls made a bit of history at the annual SLOT Cross Country held on October 1st in Carlow Town Hurling Club.
Rang a 6 paid a visit to Coláiste Bhríde for a taster day recently to give them an idea of what awaits them in secondary school next September.
The children in Ballyconnell NS had lots of fun during Maths Week 2025, which this year, took place from 13th – 17th October 2025!
On the 1st of October it was National Tree Day, Joanna Donnelly planted a tree at the front of the school with some of the members of our Parents Association.
