Parents are a very important part of the Active School process. Parents are kept up to date on the Active School process through discussing it with their children, regular letters home from the Active Schools committee, the Active School notice board, the Active School page here on the website and through updates on the school termly letters home. We also carried out pupil & PARENT questionnaires to get their opinion on the teaching of Physical Education in our school, ideas around P.E. homework and what they thought about the Active Schools process in general. The parents here in Ballyconnell N.S. play an important role in ensuring their children have the relevant gear and equipment needed for P.E. and any other physical activities taking place in the school. They also support us in promoting the message that children need to be physically active for 60 minutes EVERY day by bringing their children to after-school physical activities, partaking in the annual sponsored walk in June and even in our local parkrun in Rathwood which takes place every Saturday morning at 9.30am. This is such a great opportunity for our pupils to remain active outside of school and information about the parkrun is also displayed throughout the school premises. (see copy of poster below.) Our parents have also helped the children fill out their physical activity diary for school, i.e. ‘Super Troopers’ from Laya Healthcare or ‘Let’s Get Active’ booklets from the Irish Heart Foundation. Our school is always open to suggestions for Active School initiatives from our parents!
