Maths Week 2025
Monday 13th – Friday 17th October
Maths Week in Ballyconnell School was a hive of activity. Our school used lots of various websites in order to guide and assist our learning such as – www.mathigon.org, www.topmarks.com, www.twinkl.com, as well as Primary Maths Curriculum – Oide – Micro Maths – www.pmc.oide.ie
These websites formed the basis for our maths activities and games throughout Maths Week and provided a great insight into the elements of the new Maths Curriculum!
Some of the children in 1st class enjoyed some shape sorting as well as discussions around the whole school ‘Maths Eyes Competition’. This was basically where children sent in photographs of how Maths is used in everyday life, outside of the classroom! Children sent their photos into their class teachers, who then awarded prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place! It was an extremely tough competition to judge for all teachers and all students put a great effort in!

Some classes enjoyed engaging with MathsWeek TV this week also and enjoyed participating in the tasks and activities along with other schools.

2nd class enjoyed lots of cutting and sticking activities based on 2D Shapes! They started each day with a fun maths-based activity and then presented their work to the rest of the class.

Junior Infants had a tremendous time for Maths week. They went on a shape hunt in the classroom using our Maths eyes to look for circles, squares, triangles and rectangles.
They went outside on a Maths trail pointing out all the shapes that exist around us.
Did you know there is a triangle shape roof at the back of the school??? They worked in pairs using the school iPads to play a number counting game.

Finally, as mentioned already, children in every class participated in the whole school competition called ‘Maths Eyes.’ For this, the children were asked to take a photo in their environment at home and to put a Maths caption/question to it! Prizes were given for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place! In some classes, the children became the teacher asking questions based on the photographs. Have a look at few of the examples below!
Maths Week 25 was a great success in our school for all parents, students & teachers alike!
