Cumann na mBunscol Chill Mhantáin Tráth na gCeist 2025
On Thursday evening the 7th of November, eight of our students headed to Lynam’s Hotel in Laragh for a Tráth na gCeist organised by Wicklow Cumann na mBunscol. This is always a very exciting and competitive event with schools from all over County Wicklow entering each year.
Foireann 1 consisted of Anna Yuryna, Jamie Donohoe, Kate Murphy and Cathal Butler. Foireann 2 consisted of Florrie Cosgrove, Maddie Cahill, Layna Cushe and Hannah Lawlor.
It being a Wicklow Cumann na mBunscol quiz, there were a lot of questions on Wicklow GAA and GAA in general. There was a picture round and plenty of general knowledge questions.
The two Ballyconnell teams were neck-and-neck with each other throughout the entire quiz and in the end only one point separated them with Foireann 1 getting 47/80 and Foireann 2 getting 48/80. At the top of the leaderboard, Rathdrum NS were in 3rd place just behind Scoil Naomh Iósaf Baltinglass and Greystones Community NS who tied for first. Greystones won on a tie-break!
There was a raffle too with Ballyconnell students being very lucky – 5 out of 8 students won prizes!
Well done to both Ballyconnell NS teams - this quiz represented good preparation for the Credit Union Quiz which will take place in term 2. Buíochas to Wicklow Cumann na mBusncol for the organisation of the quiz and to Billy Cuddihy for acting as Máistir na gCeist on the night. Buíochas also to the parents who ferried the children to Laragh and our SNA, Edel Butler, who kept Mr Byrne informed of happenings throughout the quiz!
