Rang a 5 student Maddie Cahill tells us about all the preparations for the recent Credit Union Quiz.
The trials
On the first day of the quiz trials we weren’t assigned any teams so we were just by ourselves. We had a few trials - the questions varied a lot. There were some easy and some hard ones.
Florrie knew a lot from reading books. Cathal is quite good at general knowledge and Peter is good at sports questions, especially rugby-based questions. Our team was a good mix, as in we all were good at different topics.
Our senior teams
There were 2 senior teams. There were 2 subs for the senior teams [one sub on each team]. On both of the senior teams there were 5 people. Emma, who was the sub on one of the senior teams with Hannah, Ellie McCall, Christopher and Layna - they were all on one team. On the other senior team there were 5 people including the sub who was Evanne with Sara, Danny Butler, Eva and Ellie O’Toole.

Our junior teams
There were 3 junior teams but one of the teams were subs .On the team were Carla, Jack, Dany Yuryn and Patrick. The other team had 4 people as well – Oskaras, Catherine, Caoimhe and Sam. My team has me, Cathal, Florrie and Peter.

The topics
We were all given different sheets to learn with different topics like capital cities, proverbs, common acronyms, politicians and world leaders.
The practice
We did all of our practices in the sixth class classroom. Most of them were during break but one or two of them were just before 3 o'clock. We practiced nearly every day for 2 weeks until the quiz itself.
At the quiz
We were all very excited but nervous at the same time. When we walked into the Tullow community school we got jellies, crisps and water. We had 10 rounds with 6 questions but the senior teams had 12 rounds also with 6 questions. We got 47 questions right out 60. We had practiced some of the questions that came up but some of them we knew just from general knowledge.
Overall
Overall we all learned a lot and we had a lot of fun. We look forward to going to the next round.
