Carol Service 2024

Christmas Carol Service

On Thursday, December 19th, Ballyconnell N.S. held a Carol Service in St. Mary's Church, Ballyconnell. The event featured all classes from Junior Infants to 6th Class, with every class playing a part in telling the timeless story of the Nativity. Each class performed a selection of festive songs that beautifully complemented the narrative, creating a truly magical atmosphere.

Special thanks go to teachers Ms. Amy Doyle and Ms. Ailsh Clare, whose musical guidance added greatly to the evening's success. The church was filled to capacity, with parents, grandparents, and members of the wider school community coming together to celebrate the occasion.

The children were the true stars of the night, captivating everyone with their talent, enthusiasm, and festive spirit. It was a heart-warming way to conclude the school term, leaving everyone in attendance filled with Christmas cheer.

Ballyconnell National School Extends a Warm Welcome to Cynthia Ni Mhuricu

On Wednesday November 20th 2024 Ballyconnell National School extended a warm welcome to Cynthia Ni Mhuricu.

Our pupils were excited to greet our special guest and proudly waved Irish flags as Cynthia made her way into our new school building.

Cynthia held a small meeting with our 4th, 5th and 6th class pupils. The pupils listened to Cynthia’s story from being a young girl dreaming of growing up, her time spent working in RTE, her memories of hosting the Eurovision in 1994, her life as a teacher in Carlow and her career as a barrister.

Cynthia discussed her passion for politics and the importance of having a voice. She encouraged our pupils to ‘reach for the stars’ and ‘have courage’ while they navigate their futures beyond primary school. Cynthia discussed her role as a Member of the European Parliament and the important changes she hopes to achieve, cyber safety for primary school children being a priority.

Our pupils had a wonderful time and had the opportunity to ask questions and engage in discussion with Cynthia. Our Chairman, Seamus O’Brien thanked Cynthia for her visit to our school.

We look forward to see what Cynthia achieves as our MEP for Ireland South.

GOAL Jersey Day 2024

Ballyconnell National School is proud to support GOAL Jersey Day again this year. It is fast becoming a tradition that our boys and girls wear their favourite jersey to school and donate money to an amazing cause.

Thank you to everyone who showed their support and wore their jersey in aid of GOAL on Friday. Lots of students and teachers turned out on many different colours of jerseys of a large variety of sports; GAA, soccer,!

We raised euro for GOAL. Thanks to everybody who took part in jersey day!

GOAL is an Irish international humanitarian response agency founded over 40 years ago. They work in many countries around the world in Africa, Latin America, the Middle East and Ukraine in Europe. GOAL works with communities that are dealing with extreme poverty and crisis. So as you can see it’s a very worthy charity to be supporting. This would not have been possible without you.

Many thanks

Mary Dolan (Principal)
