Our 6th Class Play – Rumpelstiltskin
Last Christmas, we had our 6th class not-so-Christmas play. Do you enjoy school plays? I don’t mind them. I am going to try to muster as much detail as I can about my experience.
The evening of the play after school, we remained in costume because we had done our last practice that day. I felt kind of excited as I stood in front of the mirror in my extremely tea-stained shirt and blue jeans (I was playing a peasant.) I brushed my hair and before I knew it, we were in the car driving to school. It’s kind of odd driving back to school after you’ve already left. Especially because it was dark.
It was very wet as I walked to the hall. Upon entering it was so much warmer and definitely noisier. There were so many people that I could barely move. My eyes were fixed on the back door. Our class was supposed to gather in the back room. When I finally made it, I saw nearly all of my classmates were there before me. I suppose I was fashionably late!
When it was finally time for our play, we walked out of the room in a single file line. We went up the steps backstage. The scene I was in was quite early so I swiftly prepared myself with my flimsy party hat. When it was time, my fellow peasants and I emerged from the curtains. The lights were very bright. They blinded me so I didn’t have to look at the huge crowd of scrutinizing faces. I spotted my dad at the very back. He was recording me. I nearly missed my first line because I was lost in thought but I snapped back just in time. I did it. I did my part and was free to leave the stage.
Afterwards, our teacher, Mr. Byrne, took us back to our classroom. He expressed to us how proud he was. It was very nice and made me feel very happy with myself. He gave us all a nice photo he had taken of our class just before we went on stage. I will always keep that photo because I am a very sentimental person. It reminds me of my wonderful memories from 6th class.
Although I was skeptical that I could do it, I persevered and performed all of my lines. I fought through my doubtful thoughts and made my parents and my teacher proud. I will always remember my 6th class play and the pride and joy I felt from it.
